Why Digital X-ray? Our state of the art battery-powered, pulsed digital x-ray system is a truly practical way to image the cross-section of a pipe or small tank so that the overall thickness, laminate plies, and the condition of the corrosion barrier are clearly visible from the outside without shutting down or opening it for inspection. We have designed and built a one-of-a-kind, self-contained pipe mounting fixture that is completely adjustable to almost any field situation. It lets us take full advantage of the instrument's quickness and portability by mounting on pipe in minutes, ready to shoot. We are extremely careful, but in most cases, it is not necessary to banner off an area or post guards because with pulsed digital, the exclusion zone is very small and the shots are over before anyone could wander into the area. This saves a lot of time. The frame assures consistency and accuracy by aligning the image and including a guage in the image plane. A two-man team can mount five shots per hour, developed! With film, it often takes three men an hour for each shot. With our digital system, there's no darkroom and no chemicals to keep warm. With x-ray, we can test insulated pipe without removing the insulation. We can also gauge the wall of packed scrubbers without removing the packing. |
